Zak Walker is a former pupil of Waterloo Road. He was a known troublemaker, always late for school and never handing in homework. Zak made a frequent enemy of teacher and head of English, Grantly Budgen. Grantly was convinced that Zak had a drug habit. Andrew Treneman took the matter to Kim Campbell, head of pastoral care, where it was revealed that Zak had been taking over-the-counter caffeine tablets.
Andrew believed the best thing was to exclude him, however, Kim decided a home visit to discuss the issue with his mother was the best step forward.
When they arrived at the Walker Household, they discovered that Zak had been trying to hide the fact that he was caring for his mother with Huntington's disease. Kim and Andrew promised Zak that extra support would be provided.
