Wayne Johnson was a student at Michael Byrne's previous school and was mostly known for stabbing him whilst Michael tried to break up a fight. We first see Wayne in a nightmare of Michael's, where he has a flashback of the stabbing incident. In Michael's first episode, we also see Wayne found not guilty of the stabbing, before at the end of the episode Michael pays a visit to Wayne's house where he holds Wayne against a wall and demands him to confess.

In Episode 15, Wayne makes a surprise visit to the school, before Michael chases him off the premises. As Wayne threatens Michael with a pipe, Wayne backs out into the road before being hit by a van being driven by a drunk driver. Michael was unaware that the entire incident had been recorded by Phoenix Taylor, and in Episode 18 Michael discovers that Phoenix had recorded the whole thing and forces him to give him the video file.

Wayne's last appearance was in Episode 20 of Series 7, where he is seen leaving hospital before entering the school to confront Michael, after he lost everything after being kicked out of his house by his girlfriend, meaning he could no longer see his daughter. Eventually, Wayne breaks down and finally confesses that he stabbed Michael because he believed that he had 'given up on him'. Michael then comforts Wayne as he cries holding a photo of his newborn daughter. Linda then calls Wayne an ambulance as Michael leaves the room, it's unknown what became of Wayne after as he isn't seen or heard from again.
