Ray Keats was Lorraine Donnegan's "right-hand man" at one of her businesses.

Shortly before the events of Series 8 Episode 7, Ray begins a relationship with Sian Diamond after Lorraine introduces them.

In the episode, Lorraine brings Ray in to talk to the Year 13s, before he takes them to a call centre for work experience. When Ray first arrives, he meets Madi Diamond at the school gates, surrounded by boxes of all her stuff after being thrown out by her mother. He helps her take the boxes inside.

Throughout the episode it becomes clear that Madi fancies Ray, and at one point she tries to kiss him but he backs away, telling her not to get carried away. Tariq Siddiqui witnesses this.

Later, at the call centre, Josh Stevenson kicks off at Ray when Madi claims that Ray made a pass at her, until Tariq confirms that it was the other way around. Josh explains to Lorraine that he only kicked off because Ray was putting pressure on him, but Lorraine explains that she asked Ray to put pressure on him because she saw promise in Josh and wanted to test him. Ray says that out of all the students doing the work experience at the call centre, Josh was by far the best at it.

Back at school, Ray and Madi have a heart-to-heart about her mother kicking her out, and end up kissing for real, right as Sian walks into the room. Ray is horrified to discover that Sian and Madi are stepmother and stepdaughter. Sian immediately dumps him, and later drops a hint to Lorraine that she should fire him, asking her "not to set her up with any more sleazeballs". Ray is not seen again.
