Norullah Sayyid is a student at Waterloo Road High School. He is a refugee from Afghanistan who moved to the UK with his brother at his parents' behest to get a good education.
He is first seen briefly in Series 11 Episode 3 in Amy Spratt's drama class, sitting in a group with Dwayne, Shola, Izzy and Tonya.
In Series 11 Episode 5, Norullah befriends History teacher Neil Guthrie after Coral Walker snatches his phone off him to delete video footage of her car bumping into the car which hit Chlo Charles and Neil returns the phone to him. Norullah initially only speaks his mother tongue, Pashto, and Neil attempts to communicate with him through gestures, but eventually Norullah shocks the staff with his good English, explaining that he learnt English from his father and from listening to the BBC World Service, but has been hiding his ability to speak English because "If I don't speak, then I'm left alone". Neil and Norullah discuss his parents in Afghanistan and his brother being missing, and Joe Casey says that the British Red Cross are doing everything they can to try to locate the brother. Norullah also overhears Tonya Walters and Dwayne Jackson discussing going to Neil's garden and digging his supposedly dead wife up, and goes over to his house to check up on him, showing him a photo of his family and his hometown of Kunduz, and Neil gets his laptop and shows Norullah who the local MP is, explaining that they could email him for help finding Norullah's brother.
In Series 12, Kelly Jo, overwhelmed and trying to find a quiet place to escape to, walks in on Norullah praying in the school's multi-faith prayer room, and silently listens to him until he finishes, after which she asks him about his prayers and he shows her a prayer on her phone.
