Ndale Kayuni is a Malawian man whom Audrey McFall meets while on holiday in Malawi with her church.
Ndale later arrives in Greenock to visit Audrey at Waterloo Road. Ndale is a kind person, helping the students and the staff, becoming the school handyman. After being close friends with Audrey, he proposes marriage to her and she accepts. He also has an affair with Sonya, who is distraught and confused when he ultimately chooses Audrey over her.
Sonya threatens to tell Audrey about their affair, until Ndale reveals his visa is about to expire, and he is only marrying Audrey so that he can stay in the country. Ndale later gets Audrey to agree to move to London with him after the wedding, as he has a job opportunity there.
Unable to keep up the lies, on Audrey and Ndale's wedding day, Sonya leaves a note on the whiteboard in Audrey's classroom revealing the affair to her. Audrey chooses to go ahead with the wedding anyway, as she feels that it is her last chance of happiness due to her age.
Sonya discovers Ndale has a secret family back in Malawi, and she and Maggie Budgen turn up at the church and tell Audrey right before the wedding ceremony could begin. Audrey realises that he is only marrying her for citizenship and calls off the wedding, and the police arrive and arrest Ndale, having been tipped off by Sonya. Ndale is presumably deported back to Malawi, as he is not seen again.

- Sonya: "This place is a bit of a maze, but you'll soon get the hang of it. This is the IT area, with all the computers and stuff. I'm imagining you don't have many of those over there. Computers. Oh, except for them ones Blue Peter sent you."
- Ndale: "I'm from Malawi, not the Stone Age."
- "A lot of gossip and innuendo. You know what? I'm tired of it. Let's see what they make of this." (before publicly displaying affection for Audrey)

- Ndale: "You are a nice girl, Sonya."
- Sonya: "Oh. Where have I heard that before?"

- "Audrey. You are an honest, hard-working and intelligent woman. And I feel honoured to have you in my life. My father has always taught me to always show respect to the ones that you admire the most. That person is you. I want the whole world to see how much admiration I have for you. Audrey McFall, will you do me the honour of becoming my wife?"
- Ndale: "I told you, what happened between us is over. It's finished. I'm with Audrey now."
- Sonya: "But she's an old woman! Why would you choose her over me?!"
