Kevin Hurst was a serial rapist attacking school girls in Rochdale during Series 2. He was believed to have raped a minimum of four girls, two being Waterloo Road students.

He was the stepfather of Maxine Barlow, and worked in the school kitchen as a canteen assistant. He was not a fan of Maxine's then-boyfriend Lewis Seddon and was seen verbally warning Lewis to leave Maxine alone.

Celine Dixon was the first Waterloo Road pupil to be raped by Kevin. The then Senior Management Team, Kim Campbell, Andrew Treneman and Jack Rimmer gave extensive advice to pupils to ensure they remain vigilant when walking to and from school - including not wearing earphones and keeping in well-lit areas. Tom Clarkson organised, alongside Andrew and Kim, a self-defence class to give pupils a better understanding of protecting themselves.

Maxine suspected Kevin to be a possible suspect and tried to make Steph Haydock aware of her concerns, however Steph was originally dismissive and did not take her seriously. Lewis Seddon was wrongfully arrested in Series 2 Episode 6 after the attempted attack on Stacey Appleyard.

Following Stacey's attack, police visited the Barlow household and questioned Kevin about his whereabouts. Maxine's mum, Patti Barlow, gave a false alibi to the officers. Later Maxine finds a ski mask in Kevin's backpack, which confirms her belief that he is the rapist, and Steph rings the police who later arrest Kevin for the attacks.

Kevin is not seen again.
