Havelock High School is the local rival school to Waterloo Road when they move to Greenock in Scotland. Gerard Findlay, the headmaster of Havelock High in the first part of Series 8, tries his best to bring down Waterloo Road and Michael Byrne. The rivalry between the two schools continues up until Series 10 when the council announce plans to merge Waterloo Road with Havelock. This is eventually stopped and Waterloo Road is allowed to stay open.
After multiple mentions, Havelock itself first physically appears in Series 8 Episode 25 when Christine Mulgrew goes to be interviewed by then-headteacher Yvonne Hegarty for a head of year job there, which she is offered, but later turns it down after being offered the Head of Year 12 job at Waterloo Road.
Havelock High next appears in Series 10 Episode 6 when Justin Fitzgerald marches into the school to demand his stolen wallet back from Havelock pupil Mickey McArthur, who is promptly expelled by then-headteacher Mr Dunbar.
Havelock is next seen in Series 10 Episode 12 when Waterloo Road pupil Kevin Chalk is revealed to have been taking graphics and product design (GPD) courses there with Havelock's senior GPD teacher Colin Bond, and Colin tells Kevin that this will be coming to an end as Waterloo Road have a GPD teacher of their own starting soon, but Kevin later transfers to Havelock completely.
Havelock makes its fourth and final physical appearance in Series 10 Episode 15 when Colin Bond gives Waterloo Road's parent-teacher association (PTA) a tour of Havelock. During this tour, Havelock is presented as being much better than Waterloo Road, featuring better buses and better buildings, and said to have much better resources by Olga Fitzgerald, Steph Norton and others, as well as fancy electronic devices that the Havelock students have their timetables on, however these devices are implied to have been hurriedly brought into school specifically for the purpose of the tour, to make Havelock look better than they actually are.
If Waterloo Road's merger with Havelock had gone ahead, there had been plans to expand and overhaul Havelock to accommodate the influx of Waterloo Road students post-merger, with a new block called 'The Waterloo Wing' (later changed to 'The Wilson Wing' after Selina Wilson, head of the Education Committee at West Greenock Council, who was overseeing the merger), but it is revealed that there was no architects on the project as the previous architects had been sacked, and Havelock's enlarged student body would be being taught in portacabins for years. When this comes out, the merger is stopped, and Waterloo Road is saved from closure.
