Brooding, troubled and mysterious, Connor Mulgrew is an enigma. Life is never easy for him, thanks to a difficult relationship with his alcoholic mother Christine. But his instant chemistry with Imogen could be about to change all this.

Series 8 saw Connor get together and fall in love with quiet student Imogen, and Imogen supports him through difficult times with his mother. As Christine continues to drink Connor is put under a lot of pressure protecting her secret from the rest of Waterloo Road, even more so when they found out Christine's drinking has given her alcoholic hepatitis and she had to stop drinking now to save her life. However Christine was unable to give up much to the distress of Connor.

Things got really bad between Connor and Christine, Connor started numerous fires around the school and on the last day of term, after Christine stops his and Imogen's plan to run away to the school house during the holidays he set fire to a classroom. Whilst staring at the flames Imogen approached him, dragging him but then an explosion happened leaving Imogen unconscious.

Imogen survived the fire but was left with obvious scaring to her neck, Connor felt too guilty to talk to her and it took several weeks for him to confess it was he who started the fire. Despite being very angry to find out he caused the permanent damage to her skin Imogen forgave Connor and they are now happily enjoying married life.

Initially disappointed, Christine’s now finally come to terms with his career choice of chef – but how will she feel when Connor decides it’s time to fly the nest?
